I love receiving letters in the mail, don’t you? Since sending cards in the mail is becoming a lost art, I thought I’d compile a list of letter writing resources to help you out!

To start with, let me share this quote from a post called “The Art of Letter Writing”:
. . . sending a letter is the next best thing to showing up personally at someone’s door. Ink from your pen touches the stationery, your fingers touch the paper, your saliva seals the envelope. Something tangible from your world travels through machines and hands, and deposits itself in another’s mailbox. Your letter is then carried inside as an invited guest. The paper that was sitting on your desk, now sits on another’s. The recipient handles the paper that you handled. Letters create a connection that modern, impersonal forms of communication will never approach.
I love how eloquently this was written and how very true it is. Maybe this quote unravels some of the mystery behind the feelings we have towards letter writing and receiving real mail.
Letter-writing Inspiration
- I came across a wonderful website by Pam Foster called The Lost Art of Letter Writing. (You can visit it here.) She shares her cards and letters, and they are gorgeous. I love a recent post where she shared how she’s using clear envelopes. I have some that I bought years ago to package cards for sale but they would be amazing to use for an envelope. I’m going to try that!
- I’ve mentioned The Postman’s Knock before for all things hand-lettering but she also has a lot of card and envelope-making tutorials. This particular birthday card is stunning (and is a great reminder for me to pull out our light box and use it more often!)
- Want to learn how to make a pocket letter? I share how I made my first pocket letter here on this post. It is such a creative way to send snail mail! I originally made one for my mom but my young nieces were mesmerized by all the tiny treasures in each pocket. Definitely noted that for the future!
- I absolutely LOVE this idea of making a pen pal gift set. This tutorial is easy to follow and reminded me of my craft kit for kids article. You could definitely choose small, flat crafting items to send a craft kit in the mail too. (Think stickers, mini-books, and ribbon.)

Letter-writing Supplies
Who needs an excuse to buy cute cards, stationery, and pens? Not me! Here are some of my very favorites:
- Pretty floral thank you cards. I always like to have thank you cards on hand for when I need them. 🙂
- Tombow Brush Pens for bold color. Each marker has a brush tip and a fine marker tip.
- Cutest cat pens ever + they have extra fine tips—my favorite!
- Letter writing kit. This is such a cute idea.
