If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I’m a big fan of creative retreats (so much so that I wrote an entire workbook about how to DIY your own.) Taking time to pursue my own creative practice in the many varied ways it shows up these days has been so life-giving to me I want you to be able to experience them too.
So today I’m going to share in this video how I define creative retreats (it probably is a bit different than what you’ve been thinking!) and steps to take your very first retreat. Believe me when I say once you get started taking creative retreats you’re not going to want to stop. 🙂
Creative Retreats 101
If you have absolutely No Idea what you would do on a creative retreat, I have a whole list of ideas in my book, The Creative Retreat workbook. Here are some fun ideas to get started:
- Knitting
- Writing or journaling
- Reading (catch up on all the books you’ve been wanting to read!)
- Letter-writing
- Whatever you LOVE to do when you create – paint, scrapbook, dance…what makes your heart SING?
Remember we all are creative in different ways. Don’t waste time wishing you had your friend’s creative gene when you have your own brand of creativity bursting out of your fingertips.

I also have a board on Pinterest that is filled with (mostly) simple craft and DIY tutorials. Just be sure to not spend TOO much time on Pinterest because that precious time could be used to enjoy a lovely creative retreat. 🙂

Such a great idea for anyone busy to take time out & get creative. When the weather is good we love taking out paints outdoors for creative time. My daughter has been taking art & its amazing to see her skills, creativity grow. Thanks for sharing at the Inspiration Spotlight party. Pinned & shared.
