How to Make Toddler Leg Warmers

These toddler leg warmers are so simple to knit, and they also make great gifts!

Last week I shared a drop stitch scarf pattern that I made for my daughter recently. And now it’s time to share the matching leg warmers. 🙂 I made a set of these (on a smaller scale) when she was a teeny tiny baby, which on a side note is the perfect project for a new mommy. They were so small they didn’t take very long to make at all. My kind of project. 🙂

Not that these toddler leg warmers are much more difficult to make.

This little scarf is so simple and cute! Perfect for your toddler—I sewed the ends together to make a cowl which makes it easy to wear too! Love this! (Would also make a great gift!)

How to Make Toddler Leg Warmers

You will need:

Two skeins chunky acrylic wool blend in complimentary colors (You won’t use it all.)
Size 9 knitting needles (or check the yarn you’re using for the size you’ll need)
Knitting needle to sew in ends
Scissors

I used the same yarn that I bought at Target for my daughter’s scarf. It’s a wool/acrylic blend. (You can get it here and see the other options they carry too. Super cute!)

Before I get started with this pattern, know that this pattern is very forgiving and can be easily adapted. You can make it larger or smaller, depending on your needs.

Cast on 16 stitches.

Using Yarn A, knit 1×1 rib for 8 rows.

Add in Yarn B and knit 1×1 rib for 6 rows.

Switch back to Yarn A and knit 1×1 rib for 10 rows.

Bind off and sew in ends. Fold in half and sew the seams together.

Repeat pattern for second leg warmer.

Here’s a picture of the leg warmer before I folded it in half. I recommend knitting for a few rows and then measuring to your toddler’s leg so you can see if it is going to be large enough. The ribbing does stretch, so keep that in mind.

This particular yarn has gold woven through it. It’s so pretty! 🙂

Once you finish with one leg warmer, it’s time to make another! If, as you’re knitting, you think the leg warmer should be longer or shorter, go ahead and modify the pattern. Make a note of when you stopped so you can match the second leg warmer. You can also “cheat” and measure them against each other. 🙂

These leg warmers are ready for my little sweets to wear now! She looks so cute wearing her cowl and these leg warmers with her boots. Kids these days. They are too much. 🙂

By the way, here’s another simple scarf knitting pattern that you might like.

Hope you have an amazing {and creative} day!
