Try these daily prompts for your journal and see your journal pages come alive with your own beautiful self-expression!
I love to journal, but sometimes I get into a rut. My happy journal pages start looking the same, my art journal pages look bleh, and my bullet journal just looks sad. Okay, my bullet journal looks sad all the time, but at least it works for me.
Moving on.
I came across a book called No Excuses Art Journaling recently that gave me so many great ideas to try in my journals. This particular book outlines an entire system with enough content for every month of the year. That’s a little much for me since I’m a rebellious artist who likes to go her own way. 🙂
Still, I DID get my creative wheels going again, and thought you would be inspired by this idea too. I love how simple these daily prompts for your journal are, and they especially look great if you do them for a week or even a month. You’ll create a grid of color, words, and beauty that is your very own. LOVE.
In this video and post, I am using a creative planner called Make Art Every Day. For me, the spaces in this planner are too small to use as a regular planner so I use it as a happy journal. (Happy journaling is my word for a mix of gratitude journaling and art journaling—you literally doodle and draw what you’re grateful for and what makes you happy each day.)
I love that I can gesso or paint over the pages in this journal to start with a blank slate or I can use different media each week for a completely different look. That’s the joy of art journaling. YOU choose what you want your journal to be about and how you want it to look. Journaling also gives me an excuse to try out my different art supplies and to see how they interact with each other.
On the page pictured above, I printed and cut out pictures that felt cozy and happy to me too. Even though the weather was cloudy (with a touch of sun), I wanted the page to have a glow, so I filled in the middle areas with yellow crayon and colored pencil. I also experimented with some stamps to add extra texture.
I wish my photo in the center had turned out better because it’s a smiley face on the side of a mountain here in Oregon! We came across it last summer when we took a wrong turn and ended up taking a very long route back home.
Okay, I’ll let you go now so you can try these prompts for your journal! Have fun!
