I LOVE working with art journaling backgrounds. Using patterned papers, especially ones that have painterly elements adds a unique touch to my art journals. They are also great for helping me get past the initial blank page in my art journal.

I’ve been art journaling for many years but only recently came across this idea to use pre-printed papers to create texture and add color to my journal instantly. Before that, I would paint a layer, let it dry, paint another layer, add some texture, let it dry, etc.

Now that is fun, but having some ready-made backgrounds is really fun too. I love to use these papers to add punch to hair, to create dimensional backgrounds in an instant, and like I show in the video below, to create clothes!

If you’re like me, sometimes I want to SEE how to use something I’m not familiar with. I created this Mermaid Art Journaling Page video so you can quickly see how I use these art journaling papers to make her outfit. 🙂

These art journal papers are also great to use as collage elements or for card-making. You can hole punch them for confetti, large or small, or cut them into bunting. Isn’t paper the best?
