A gratitude journal plus an art journal makes a happy journal! And this happy journal for kids is a great (and easy) way to teach your child about finding the good in life!
Earlier this year, I started happy journaling with my daughter for our homeschool. We usually start the day with this—she doodles in her journal and I doodle in mine. It’s a great practice to take that moment to remember the good.
What’s really striking to me is how EASY it is for a child to do this exercise.
You and I might labor a bit. “Hmm, what should I write?” “My day was a bit lousy yesterday.” “I’m not a good artist.” “I wish I could draw this better. . .”
In contrast, a little kid grabs a pen and GOES FOR IT.
I recently created a Happy Journal for Kids printable journal that is so much fun. I printed one out for my daughter, three-hole punched it, and put it into a 1 inch binder. The idea was she would fill out one page per day. (I honestly hoped this wouldn’t become a chore for her.)
She happily drew a page-full, and we put the notebook away.
The next morning, I noticed the notebook had been left out. I flipped it open and she had filled almost the entire book out!
Page after page of doodles, comments, and drawings.
I know she loves to draw, but wow. Her heart just blew me away.
We can learn a lot from the children in our lives.
What I especially love about this printable journal is when your kiddo finishes it, you can easily print out more pages to keep up their gratitude journal habit. I’ve included prompts for the first seven pages just in case you have a reluctant artist, but most kids jump straight in and DRAW.
Usually this printable journal retails for $8.98, but here’s a discount code for you so you can get one today. 🙂

These happy journals also make great gifts and are fun to do together as a family! We especially like pulling ours out during the holidays to talk and draw what we’re thankful for—and don’t worry, stick figures are fine!
If you want your OWN Happy Journal, you can pick up my book (which includes journal pages at the end!) on Amazon. Enjoy!
